Waste, Recycling, Organics and Reusables at Light Up Lyneham

Light Up Lyneham is again collaborating with the SEE-Change WasteLess team to manage and reduce waste at the event. We are seeking to reduce single-use packaging and to prioritise recycling and composting, to make this event as sustainable as possible. We appreciate your help in reducing waste.

For food and drink vendors: reusable plates, mugs, dishes and cutlery

WasteLess can provide stallholders with plates, mugs, dishes and cutlery to use when serving customers, to avoid single-use items where possible and also save stallholders money.

We can provide a basket with the items you need and keep it stocked up through the night. We will have a dishwashing stall in a central location, to collect, wash and sanitise dishes for reuse.

Collecting waste, recycling and organics

WasteLess is also looking after the bin stations, providing signage for the bins (waste, recycling, organics and 10c deposit), and stationing volunteers at the bins to collect reusables and assist customers in working out where different items should go.

The organics (food scraps, paper plates & serviettes and wooden cutlery) will be going to Global Worming, a local worm farm, for worms to convert into vermi-compost.

The worms don’t like plastic, not even compostable plastic. Any compostable plastic will go to landfill so, if you are providing plastic, it is best to be recyclable rather than compostable.

We can provide stallholders with buckets for organics and boxes for recycling, so these are separated from general waste. We will be monitoring and collecting these throughout the event.

With soft plastic collection restarting, we will also be collecting soft plastics, through the recycling boxes for stallholders and a bin at the SEE Change stall.
